What’s the difference between Neo-Conservatives and Libertarians? | Ask MetaFilter

Wow. This was a pretty good thread that talks about all of the different cateorizations of “right-of-center” political groups.

As for me, I’m still struggling with how much of an “isolationist” I am. Preemption vs. the “Sleeping Giant.”

I think I’m pretty solid in my feelings on domestic policy, but foreign policy as it relates to domestic policy gets a bit hairy.

The Dumbest Quote in History

Filed under: Katrina, Politics, Stupidity — mattandrhya @ 8:26 am

Barbara Bush, former first lady, was quoted in a radio show after surveying the displaced Katrina victims in the Astrodome. After seeing such horrible circumstances, what could this member of political history muster?

Drumroll……

“Everyone is so overwhelmed by the hospitality. And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway, so this is working very well for them.”

Barbara Bush

What an idiot. What a self-centered, emotionally-dead idiot.

Call in the clean-up crew for this one….Looks like we need the industrial sawdust. So, Press Secretary Scott McClelland comes to the rescue. He’s asked if he thinks GWB thinks the same way that his Mom thinks.

”I think that the observation is based on someone or some people that were talking to her that were in need of a lot of assistance, people that have gone through a lot of trauma and been through a very difficult and trying time. And all of a sudden, they are now getting great help in the state of Texas from some of the shelters.”

Scott McClelland

Let me summarize this for you: “Bedee Bedee Bedee (this job sucks sometimes).”

Update on terrible Supreme Court ruling

Filed under: Politics, Rants — mattandrhya @ 12:00 pm

Honestly, the hits just keep on coming. A little over a month ago, the Supreme court ruled that private property could be seized for “economic development” — which basically means you can take property from one private entity to give to another. I already got my blood pressure up over this story.

Now, the city is charging the man back rent for the time that this was being litigated. I’m sick to my stomach.

This makes me want to go out and give money to Freestar Media for the Lost Liberty Hotel Initiative. Here is an encouraging quote from their site:

Logan will visit Weare, New Hampshire from August 20th to the 23rd. He will talk to local supporters who are planning to use ballot initiatives to seize the land at 34 Cilley Hill Road and clear away other local laws that may hinder the project. It appears that an initiative can be placed on the March 2006 Weare N.H. ballot with only 25 signatures and can win with between 1,020 and 2,777 votes. Whoever said this project “will never happen” might find themself sitting in the Just Deserts Cafe eating crow pie next to David Souter.

Now, I need to qualify this: I only want this initiative to pass so that it can be challenged in court again. I’m not looking for an “eye for an eye.” However, this is the sweetest way I can think of to bring further attention to the issue.

If some of you more well-off readers want to support a good cause…

Thanks, Josh, for sending the link.
