The night before I left for Germany the second time, Rhya and I put together Lindy’s crib and changing table. They both turned out really nice. You can tell that we are both ready for the new member of our family to join us!

Happy Birthday Jo!

Jo is celebrating her first birthday as a member of another state today! We miss you and hope that you are having a wonderful day. I hope they still celebrate birthdays and have cake in Kansas…

Tanner’s Orchard

Filed under: Family — mattandrhya @ 4:20 am

Rhya and I had an awesome Saturday. We worked on the basement, went and saw “Flightplan” (it sucks), and then decided to take a trip to Tanner’s Orchard.

Some of you know, I grew up helping my Dad (as much as a 5-10 yr. old can) on an orchard. M&E Orchard in Laura, IL to be exact. So, I was really excited about going to Tanner’s, as I haven’t been to an orchard in years. We walked around the grounds and picked up some cider and apple pastries. (We later heated the cider with some mulling spices – excellent)

It was a great time, but Tanner’s is no M&E.

It took awhile for me to get these pictures off of my phone and into Flickr, but JP and Lea Anne invited us on the 12th to Join them in JMP Media’s suite to watch the Chiefs (Cubs farm team) battle the Quad Cities Swing (Cardinals farm team). We had an awesome time, and it was really nice to hang out with JP’s family. We always have a good time when we get together.

Plus, the Chiefs rolled over the Swing.

In a weird twist, it was Albert Pujols bobble head night, so Josh: expect a USPS package on its way.

Happy Anniversary Jo and Harry!

Filed under: Anniversaries, Family — mattandrhya @ 11:41 am

I’m going to make a stab at it, but I think it might be 15 years, give or take one. Congratulations!

By the way, (here comes some made up numbers for a joke..), if they have been married 15 years, and they dated for around 6 years before that, then Jo hasn’t dated anybody but Harry for over 22 years….Wow.

20 Weeks Tomorrow

Filed under: Family, Lindy, Pictures, Pregnancy, Rhya — mattandrhya @ 5:56 am

This photo is dark, but it is the only really good one that I have right now that shows how pregnant Rhya is. Officially, tomorrow, the baby is halfway ready to come into the world. We are so excited! So, to mark the occasion, we’ve decided to let everyone in on a little secret. Our new daughter will be named Lindy Paige Miller.

If you want to beat the rush, you can e-mail her here, or e-mail me, and I’ll give you her address.

Kansas City Trip to the Hofers

Filed under: Family, Pictures, Summer, Travel — mattandrhya @ 2:21 pm

We went to Kansas City this weekend to see the Hofers’ new house. It was really nice to get away from everything and spend a little time with family, even if it was a 13 hr. round trip.

When we made it in on Friday night, we got the tour of the new place, and we sat in the living room and talked until all the travelling caught up to us. We woke up early on Saturday to an excellent breakfast of waffles, eggs and bacon that Jo had made. Then, we got ready and jumped in the car. I used to consult at Sprint in Gardner, KS, so I was pretty familiar with the area that they moved to. So, they took me around to all of the little places that I remembered, and I got to be a bit nostalgic. We saw Harry’s new office (window and all), and met his pet turtle “Speedy”.

We ate lunch at Barley’s Brewhouse in Overland Park, and then we picked up some steaks and brews for a cookout later that night.

When we got home, we went to the community pool, which is not only extremely big (think olympic-sized lap lanes), but also pretty empty. We had a gigantic section all to ourselves. We played with the torpedo, shot each other with the water noodles, and soaked in the sun. Beautiful.

We came back and played a little soccer, played a little Uno, watched some Sims 2 character creation, drank some brew, and had a great time.

We woke up on Sunday, and Bennett and I watched “Foster’s home for imaginary friends.” It was a pretty good cartoon.

It was really nice to see the Hofers, and I’m sure I’m missing a bunch of stuff (like how nice the walking trail was). But, we had a great time, and can’t wait to head back to KC!

It’s a Girl!

Filed under: Family, Lindy, Pictures — mattandrhya @ 6:49 pm

The balance is starting to tip in the favor of the ladies in the Miller household. We went to the doctor for the sonogram on Monday afternoon (last Monday), and it is amazing how big she has gotten from the last sonogram photos.

She was very shy, and wasn’t really interested in showing off her business to the technician, so she kept her legs tucked in, and the umbilical cord in between her legs. It took the tech quite a bit of prodding and looking from different angles before she was able to say “It’s a Girl” with 95% confidence. As a statistician, I’ll take that confidence interval as the go ahead to start planning.

We were so excited when we heard the news, that we started going through little girl names again, and we’ve got them narrowed down to two names. Either one we eventually pick will be great, and we’ll probably use the other for our next girl, if we have another one. I think the names are win-win for everyone.

That being said, we can’t tell you what they are. Sorry. Not until we figure out which one is right for this baby. We did poll the immediate family, but it has been exactly split so far.

So, check out the pictures of our darling little baby girl, and look here to see how she is already taking after her dad:

Emergency Room

Filed under: Emergency, Family, Rhya — mattandrhya @ 11:33 am

It’s always good to start a story about the emergency room with the result first: Rhya is fine, the baby is great, and everything is hunky-dory.

Ok, but that wasn’t the case on Tuesday night. Rhya had been feeling chest pains and shortness of breath throughout the day, but she figured it would work itself out. However, by around 2am, it got so bad that she couldn’t sleep and her left arm started feeling numb. She called the doctors, and Dr. Ma (the oncall doctor) told her to not mess around with chest pains, and that she should go to the emergency room.

After doing some tests, the doctor on call diagnosed her with esophagitis, which basically means that she was having heartburn so bad that it burned her esophagus.

There is a lot more to the story, but thanks to Tammy for everything: making sure that the prescription was safe (by the way, the linked article shows the “B” classification), rearranging your work schedule to stay with Rhya, and for helping us and guiding us through such a hard situation.
